Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Awareness presentations delivered by the Health Service Executive.

As we are all only too aware, suicide is a very complex issue and one that is unfortunately very prevalent in our society today. However, one of the most important protective factors against the incidence of suicide and suicide behaviour is increasing awareness amongst individuals and communities that something can be done to prevent it.

Historically Irish Rural Link (IRL) has been running training and information seminars in relation to matters that affect those living in rural areas. Mental health and suicide is also a huge concern in rural areas and indeed an issue for everyone in society. With this in mind IRL would be willing to co-ordinate some suicide awareness presentations for our members. Non members will also be most welcome. Should you be interested we would be delighted to hear from you with the objective of co-ordinating training in your area.

The initial objective would be to coordinate a Suicide Awareness Presentation. This runs for Approximately 2 hours and contains the following components:

  • Definition and Causes of Suicide.
  • Profile of Suicide and Suicidal Behaviour in Ireland and Europe.
  • The Contributory Factors of Suicide.
  • Understanding Deliberate Self Harm.
  • Suicide Prevention: National and Local Response.
  • Individual Response: Warning Signs / Risk Factors / What can be done!.
