RURAL BROADBAND:
Irish Rural link are campaigning on Rural Broadband:
The idea of the campaign is threefold:
- To let the Government know the level of frustration that exists in rural Ireland on the broadband issue;
- To make the Department of Communications aware of where broadband is/is not available in rural Ireland (they insist that it is only unavailable in 10% of the country though most experts estimate that the true figure is twice or three times that level). This is a really important point as the Department of Communications is proposing to roll broadband out to only the 10% of the country that it thinks are unserved as part of the National Broadband Scheme.
- To call on the Department of Communications to ensure that whatever system is used in the proposed National Broadband Scheme will be capable of delivering high speed broadband to those who need it. At the moment it looks as if the proposed National Broadband Scheme will only deliver a very basic package to all users. In fact the speed of the proposed National Broadband Scheme would not be considered fast enough to be called broadband in other EU countries.
